Rain was one such character, the purple variant of the MK ninja squad, Rain was a warrior of royal bloodline and with some pretty sweet water manipulation powers, that made him stand out from the rest.
So far so good right? Then why is he on this list of stupid characters you wonder? That is until you realize he is the purple ninja who is called Rain… that is to say he’s Purple Rain.

That’s right, Rain isn’t a character that was created out of artistic vision, or to fill out all the squares in the Scorpion pallet swap bingo card. He was the literal manifestation of a stupid Pun!

MK designer: alright, but let’s make it quick I have to go and get drunk at my 9 year old nephews birthday party.
MK developer: It won’t take long, we’ll just make some minor changes to an existing character and call it a day. It worked for the two hundred Scorpion clones.
MK designer: Hmm… how about Goro, He’s really popular and unique enough to make redundant.
MK developer: but we already turned Goro into a girl (Shiva) what more can we possibly do?
MK designer: two words, Tiger Stripes!
And thus Kintaro was born, who is what the resulting offspring of a drunken night Goro shared with a Bengal tiger would look like and is just as stupid as that sounds!

Mortal Kombat is one of the best fighting games out there and it’s excessive gore makes it more comical than terrifying. In fact, this lackluster lineup of “Unique” characters is more off-putting than any of the gruesome fatalities the games are famous for.
