The world of Anime works on a different set of rules than ours. There are 500 types of hairstyles but only 3 types of faces to go around, the blandest guys somehow attract a harem of girls and a major disability such as losing an entire arm does not do anything to reduce the power or shear badassness of a character.
Here are five anime characters that didn’t let losing an arm hold them back:
Guts (Berserk)
Guts, the “Black Swordsman” of Berserk is perhaps the most sympatric characters in all of anime. If you think you had a hard life, sweet summer child Guts has had it worse. But his terrible luck seemed to have changed once he found Griffith and the band of the hawk, that is until one of the greatest betrayals in anime history happened (If you know, you know), as a part of which Guts also ended up losing an arm.
But this did not make the black swordsman think of retirement; instead he strapped on a hand cannon where his left arm used to be and jumped back into the fray in his quest for revenge.
With the death of the author, the late great Kentaro Miura, we may never know how Guts’ story ends. But he will forever remain as the personification of tenacious will power
Edward Elric (Full Metal Alchemist)
Ever heard of the phase of giving ‘an arm and a leg’ for something, well Edward is someone who took that saying a bit too literally. Using Alchemy, Edward attempted to resurrect his mother, which failed miserably resulting in him losing both an arm and a leg and his brother Alphonse losing his entire body.
But that didn’t stop Edward from wanting to undo his mistake and do right by his brother and becoming one of the most talented and revered state alchemists as well.
Gildarts (Fairy-tail)
The Crush Magic user of the ‘Fairytail’ guild, is one of the strongest combatants in the whole show. This didn’t stop him from taking a huge lose against Acnologia, the most powerful villain in the entire series, and a literal Dragon. But he did end up losing an arm and a leg in the process.
