Book Review: A Christmas Carol

Decided to read an all-time favorite classic last Christmas, ‘A Christmas carol’ by Charles dickens, a story that has been immortalized by time and often held as a tale that truly captures the Christmas spirit. While the story contains more spirits than a modern horror movie with the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future and that of Jacob Marley to me the most haunting character will always be protagonist himself: Ebenezer Scrooge.

While most look at Scrooge and either remember a miser with no love for anything but money or as a reminder that it is never too late to redeem oneself, I see Ebenezer scrooge as a warning. While redemption is a main theme of the book, perhaps it would be better for one not fall into a life that has to be redeemed in the first place. While at the start Scrooge seems like a cold hearted miser who we feel no sympathy for, as the story progresses we find the reasons that he has turned into the man we see today.
