4. Sleeping Dogs
If you want a GTA-style open-world crime game that deserves far more attention, Sleeping Dogs is still worth checking out.
Set in Hong Kong, the game puts you in the shoes of an undercover police officer infiltrating the Triads. Naturally, this involves plenty of driving, shooting, fighting, criminal activities, and generally making your job considerably more complicated than it needs to be.
The hand-to-hand combat is especially good, with environmental take-downs that let you turn practically everything around you into a weapon. It’s also one of those games where you eventually wonder why nobody has made a proper sequel. Maybe 2026 is the year we finally stop pretending this game wasn’t awesome.
5. Saints Row IV
And finally, there’s Saints Row IV, because sometimes you don’t want realism. Sometimes you want to punch a spaceship.
The Saints Row series has always been the sillier cousin of GTA, and Saints Row IV completely embraces that identity. You play as the President of the United States, gain superpowers, fight an alien invasion and run around a virtual version of Steelport while causing an absolutely unreasonable amount of destruction.
It’s completely ridiculous and that’s the point.
If GTA 6’s realistic cars, detailed environments and criminal drama sound great but you also secretly want to run down the street at superhuman speed while throwing people into buildings, Saints Row IV is ready to provide the nonsense.
It won’t replace GTA 6. But it might make the wait considerably more entertaining. Just don’t accidentally play the pile of Dog shit that is the 2022 Saints row reboot.
Conclusion
GTA 6 is going to be enormous, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend 2026 staring at Rockstar trailers while waiting for the next big crime spree. Until GTA 6 arrives, there’s plenty of trouble to get into. Just try not to get your virtual driver’s license revoked.
