Apollo was the god of music, and he wasn’t shy about how talented he was. Marsyas was a satyr who was also a skilled musician. He dared to challenge Apollo to a musical contest, and Apollo won. But instead of being a good sport, Apollo took his revenge by flaying Marsyas alive (there’s being a sore winner and being a psycophathic one!). It was a brutal and cruel punishment that Marsyas didn’t deserve. #justicefortheflayedsatyr
You’d thing with Athena being the goddess of wisdom, she’d be less petty than the other gods. Which she is but not always.
Athena was once challenged by a mortal woman named Arachne. Arachne was an expert weaver and boasted that her skills were greater than Athena’s.
Athena took on the challenge and the two set to work. Athena wove a beautiful tapestry depicting the gods and their deeds, while Arachne crafted a scene full of mockery and insults directed at the Olympians.
When they finished, Athena was clearly the winner. But Arachne would not accept defeat. So Athena did the sensible thing and turned her into a spider so that she could continue to weave her forever webs. But more annoyingly cursed the whole world with the creation of Spiders (Athena Why!)
