Runner (2026) vs. The Runner (2026) vs The Runner (2015): Three Movies, One Bland Overused Name.

It turns out 2026 has given us not one but two movies called Runner and The Runner. Despite their nearly identical titles, they’re completely different films, featuring very different reasons to spend the entire movie running away from them. And then a random google search revealed that Hollywood already made a movie called The Runner all the way back in 2015 starring Nicholas Cage!

Three movies. Almost the same name. Completely different disasters. Because apparently Hollywood has run out of ideas, even in the naming department.

1. Runner (2026)

Starring: Alan Ritchson, Owen Wilson
Genre: Action / Comedy/Thriller

A former soldier gets stuck with a very important delivery: a liver that needs to reach a young girl who desperately needs it.

The problem? A cartel wants the liver, and they’re willing to turn the delivery into an all-out chase.

So you’ve got Alan Ritchson punching criminals, Owen Wilson presumably making jokes, and a medical organ becoming the most aggressively transported piece of luggage in cinema history.

This is the: ‘run really fast because criminals are shooting at you’ version.

With cartel hitmen, explosions, car chases, and plenty of opportunities for Ritchson to punch people, Runner is a straightforward action adventure. Wilson provides the comedic element, making this an unusual pairing of action hero and wisecracking sidekick.

2. The Runner (2026)

Starring: Gal Gadot 
Genre: Action/ Psychological thriller

If Runner is about delivering a life-saving organ, The Runner is about saving a kidnapped child.

Gal Gadot plays Maia Marten, a London lawyer whose morning jog takes a horrifying turn when she receives a phone call informing her that her son has been kidnapped.

She’s forced to race across London, following increasingly sinister instructions from a mysterious caller. Every decision could mean the difference between rescuing her son and losing him forever.

Unlike its similarly titled counterpart, this film focuses on psychological tension and a mother’s desperate struggle to save her child. There’s no wisecracking Owen Wilson to lighten the mood, either.

3. The Runner (2015)

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Sarah Paulson
Genre: Political Drama

And then there’s Nicolas Cage’s The Runner, which proves that sometimes you don’t need to physically run anywhere to have a spectacularly bad day.

Cage plays Colin Price, a Louisiana congressman whose career and personal life begin falling apart in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

There are political scandals, questionable decisions, and plenty of consequences. Nobody is sprinting through London or protecting a liver from a cartel.

Instead, Cage spends most of the movie dealing with the consequences of his actions.

The bottom line:

If someone tells you they’re watching Runner, you might want to ask which one. Otherwise, you could end up watching an entirely different kind of chase movie.

So if you’re searching for The Runner and accidentally pick the wrong year, congratulations: you’ve gone from Nicolas Cage political drama to a Gal Gadot kidnapping thriller or even a fun buddy cop with one big guy and a little guy.

If you have to watch one of these though because of kidnapper forcing you to for the organs of a political candidate or something we suggest Runner 2026 of the because it’s at least a fun watch.

But seriously, Hollywood really needs to start putting more effort into naming these things.
