The Orks in Warhammer 40,000, the conversation usually goes straight to the big names: The Goffs, Evil Sunz, Bad Moons, Deathskulls and the Snakebites, the last of whom still doesn’t understand that guns exists in the grim dark future.
But the galaxy is absolutely overflowing with Orks, and there are a lot more Ork Clans out there that may need a bit more time in the Limelight.
So here are five less-known Ork clans that deserve a little more attention.
The Blood Axes are probably the strangest Orks in the galaxy because they occasionally demonstrate something resembling planning.
These sneaky gitz have spent a lot of time fighting and even occasionally trading with the Imperium. As a result, they have picked up bizarre concepts such as camouflage, ambushes, retreats, and yes even uniforms!
Yes. Orks wearing uniforms.
To most other Orks, this behaviour is just strange making the Blood Axes the odd balls of the Ork world. Blood Axes might hide before attacking, surround an enemy instead of charging directly at them, or even retreat when a battle is going badly. Naturally, this causes other Orks to question whether they are proper Orks.
But mostly they’re strategic genius only extends to shouting WAAAGH! from behind a wall instead of out in the middle of the battlefeild.
Freebooterz aren’t exactly a traditional clan. Instead, they are Orks who have decided that clan loyalty is nice, but having your own ship and owning shit is even better.
These Orks travel the galaxy as pirates, mercenaries, treasure hunters and general interstellar scallywag.
A Freebooter might work for a Warboss today, rob his supply ships tomorrow and then join another WAAAGH! next week.
Their equipment is often wildly colourful, personalised and completely ridiculous. One Freebooter might have a pirate hat, another might be covered in trophies, and a third might simply have attached seventeen unnecessary guns to a vehicle because more Dakka? I guess.
The Freebooterz represent the pure freedom of being an Ork: no rules, no responsibilities and absolutely no shortage of explosions.
For most armies, vehicles are tools of war. For Speed Freeks, vehicles are the meaning of life.
These Orks are obsessed with speed, engines, explosions and travelling in a straight line toward something they can crash into. If a vehicle can go faster, a Speed Freek will modify it. If it can’t go faster, they will add more engines until it either works or explodes.
Most of the time both.
Speed Freeks worship the idea that “red onez go fasta”, and honestly, questioning this scientific principle is a great way to get run over by a screaming Ork in a ramshackle vehicle held together by scrap metal and optimism.
Their battles are less like military operations and more like an enormous traffic accident that somehow develops into a WAAAGH!
