7. C-Virus

Created by Carla Radames and researchers working for Neo-Umbrella.

The C-Virus combines characteristics from previous viral research and produces a wide variety of mutations.

It can create creatures such as J’avo and is central to Resident Evil 6.

It can also produce different effects depending on how the virus is administered.

8. Uroboros Virus

It is associated with Glenn Arias, who uses it as part of his revenge scheme.

Unlike the classic zombie viruses, its effects include psychological manipulation and controlled infection.

10. The Mold / Megamycete

This is important because people often call it another Resident Evil virus.

The organism introduced in Resident Evil 7 and Village is actually a fungal organism, not a virus.

The Megamycete can store biological information and consciousness, which allows infected individuals to retain memories and regenerate from seemingly fatal injuries.

It produces the Mold, which leads to creatures such as the Molded and contributes to the creation of Eveline.

Las Plagas are parasites used by Saddler and Los Illuminados in Resident Evil 4.

This is why Ganados aren’t conventional zombies.

12. NE-α Parasite

Not technically a virus, but worth mentioning.

The NE-α parasite was developed by Umbrella to improve control over Tyrant-class B.O.W.s.

It appears in creatures such as Nemesis.

This parasite gives the host increased intelligence and allows external control.

So Nemesis isn’t simply a giant zombie.

He’s basically a zombie with DLC installed.

Conclusion

After looking at Resident Evil’s collection of viruses, parasites, and fungi, one thing becomes painfully obvious: These people really need better hobbies.

Every time someone discovers a new biological organism, somebody in a lab immediately asks, “Can we weaponize that?” The answer is almost always yes, followed shortly by explosions, monsters, and several hundred unfortunate civilians.

From the T-Virus to the Mold, Resident Evil has continually found new ways to turn biology into body horror.

And somehow, after all these years, Umbrella still hasn’t learned the most important scientific principle of all: Just because you can create a monster doesn’t mean you should.
